The presentation of IEAM’s report in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria received coverage in the press, news agencies and television.
The presentation of the Atlantic route, Sahel and Canary Islands report brought IEAM’s proposals to the press, news agencies and television. The event took place on 22 September 2026 at the Canary Islands Government headquarters in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Beatriz de León Cobo spoke alongside Deputy Minister Octavio Caraballo and Director-General for Relations with Africa Luis Padilla Macabeo.
The report grew out of a collective intelligence workshop held in June with Islas Responsables Lab. It translates field knowledge into strategic and operational guidance linking the Sahel, West Africa and the Canary Islands. Declining arrivals do not mean the Atlantic route has become inactive: changing departure points and journeys require sustained monitoring.
The proposals include stronger early-warning mechanisms, closer cooperation with countries of origin and transit, and accessible regular mobility pathways.
