Bamako (Mali), September 19, 2025 – The Spanish Institute for Migration Studies (IEAM) will hold a collective intelligence workshop on Thursday, September 19, focused on legal mobility, community reintegration, and the governance of migration routes in Mali.
The workshop, which will take place in the Malian capital from 10:00 to 12:30, will bring together a small group of experts, authorities, and civil society representatives under the Chatham House rule, ensuring the confidentiality of interventions to foster open debate.
The objective is to co-create a shared diagnosis of mobility dynamics in Mali and define practical recommendations for six- and twelve-month horizons, aimed at local and national authorities, international partners, NGOs, and economic actors.
Three Workstreams
The workshop will be structured around three main discussion lines:
Legal and Circular Mobility: Analysis of existing models, obstacles, sector-specific pilot projects, the role of diasporas, and mechanisms to monitor “round-trip” mobility.
Reintegration of Youth and Returnees: Support thresholds, service packages, and collective models such as cooperatives or agricultural projects.
Local Coordination and Regional Management: Alternatives to irregular migration, economic options, targeted sanctions, and the management of returns within the subregion.
Outcome
As a final product, a 10–12 page policy paper will be produced, containing differentiated recommendations for governments, international organizations, civil society, the private sector, and diasporas.
IEAM has invited researchers, ministry officials, international agencies, and community leaders to contribute data and field experiences to ensure that the guidance is realistic and actionable.
